I haven’t done any freeform projects in a while, so, having been inspired by Lisa Randolph’s freeform crochet purses, I decided to try some of my own.  I figured this would be a great way to get back into freeforming without taking on a big project.

A Birthday Present for My Daughter

Freeform crochet purse I made for my daughter’s 28th birthday

I had planned to crochet a purse for my daughter’s birthday a while back.  I took a break from the Babette so I could finish it in time.  The body of this purse is felted.  I used reliable Cascade 220 as well as some novelty yarns I had laying around.  The stitch for the body is an alternating single crochet-slip stitch that I found in Kim Werker’s Teach Yourself to Crochet – Visually.

My daughter really loves it, even though I had a heck of a time getting the lining in.  I really want to re-do the lining, but she insists it’s fine.  She’s gotten several positive compliments on it, so I felt good about that, even though it’s not PERFECT like I want it to be.

A Freeform Crochet “Wallet”

Here’s a little wallet that I came up with a couple of weekends ago.  I used some acrylic yarn from my Babette project.

I used my stash to make this cute little freeform crochet purse or “wallet.”

Again, I had problems with the  lining.  I sewed up the sides of both purses before attaching the linings, so I’m thinking maybe I should try to sew them in before sewing up the sides.

In this instance, the lining sags probably because the material I used is a fairly thin cotton.  I need to put a snap or something on the front so it stays closed.

The lining in this freeform crochet purse is a bit baggy

Now I guess it’s time to get back to the Babette and finish sewing the squares together and adding the border.  I’ll let you know when I’ve got it all done (and believe me, I can’t wait!).

I've been crocheting for over 40 years and blogging since 2004 - two of my favorite things in the world to do besides walking the beaches of windward Oahu, Hawaii.
