Crocheting the Vintage Circular Shrug – Part 2

One of the things I was able to do during the Christmas holidays, along with crocheting gifts was to complete the vintage circular shrug that I talked about in an earlier post.

Here’s how the front of the vintage crochet circular shrug looks.

As I suspected, it was too small for me, so I had my daughter, Adrienne, who is clearly smaller than me, model it. I think a better range of sizes for this shrug is 6 to 12 instead of 8 to 14 (unless my body has migrated to a size 16 which I hope the heck it hasn’t!).

The back of the vintage crochet circular shrug puckers a bit.

The fit in the back is a little strange. Since the sides are mirror images of each other, the small amount of puckering in the front, which makes it easier to fit over the breasts, looks a little strange in the back.

That little spot of green at the top of the center seam is a pin I used to mark the neckline. I probably need to add a label so the wearer (a gift for Adrienne’s grandmother) will know the top from the bottom.

This shrug is supposed to have ties in the front to close it up, but I haven’t gotten around to crocheting those yet.

All in all, it was an interesting experience crocheting this vintage circular shrug. If I make another one, I’ll try a larger hook, maybe an L/8 mm or M/9 mm hook, instead of the J hook the pattern calls for, to see if I can make it big enough to fit me. I think it’s a cute pattern all in all.

I've been crocheting for over 40 years and blogging since 2004 - two of my favorite things in the world to do besides walking the beaches of windward Oahu, Hawaii.
